New York Beats Cleveland, 5-1
|
Steve Wells led New York to a win over Cleveland. The final score was 5-1. The Scottsdale, Arizona native collected 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. New York is now 21-19, Cleveland 22-19.
Bob Underwood had a big run-scoring double for the Knickerbockers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With New York leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from Myron Baird, who is tied for 2nd in the NBL in strikeouts with 49, and swatted a double to center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Knickerbockers ahead, 3-1.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Underwood.
