Getting a good performance from third baseman Wade Fields, the Houston Drillers defeated the Detroit Wolverines, 5-3. Fields was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Drillers. Houston reliever Warner Manning was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Ron Laws took the loss. The first-place Drillers go to 26-14.

Fields had a timely hit for Houston in the top of the eighth. With Houston trailing 3-2, he turned a first pitch fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season, making it 5-3, Houston.

Houston manager Steven Palps commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
