The San Diego Captains topped the Chicago Traders, 9-5, in National Baseball League action at San Diego Sporting Complex. The standout performance belonged to San Diego pitcher and Mitchellville, Maryland, native Ray Heath. The winner was Heath. He threw 8.1 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Vern Marcell. With the win, the Captains hiked their record to 25-17.
Dave Robertson went 1-4 with a walk, while scoring 2 runs for San Diego. The 25-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With no one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring single off Vern Marcell. It was his 15th hit of the season.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Robertson.
