In 10, Cleveland Sinks Cincinnati, 8-7
|
The Cleveland Bobcats weathered a fine game by Cincinnati second baseman Dave Lester to upend the Packers, 8-7, at Lakefront Stadium. Lester went 3-5 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 3. Dick Berry was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Steve Meckley. The loss puts Cincinnati at 2-3.
The decisive blow was delivered by Jim Farrar in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off 26-year old left-handed pitcher Steve Meckley to win the game for Cleveland. The home crowd went nuts.
"Our guys refused to lose," said Farrar.
