Knickerbockers Win, 5-1, Versus Eagles
|
New York starter Chris Hull kept the Washington offense from doing much damage. The right-hander leaned on his sinker in leading the Knickerbockers to a 5-1 win. The winner was Hull. He threw 6.2 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Bob Viola. New York is now 25-21, Washington 24-21.
Ron Freeman, the 25th overall pick in the 1968 draft, chipped in a 2-run home run for New York in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
In postgame comments to the New York Chronicle, Hull said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
