Bobcats Score Late, Clip Quakers, 6-5
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Cleveland Bobcats and Philadelphia Quakers.
The Cleveland Bobcats downed the Philadelphia Quakers, 6-5, at Lakefront Stadium. The Bobcats were led by Phil Chirico. Chirico went 2-5 with 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Joe Clabaugh claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record stands at 4-1. Picking up the save was Del Carbone, his 1st.
Had Don Pelletier not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Pelletier hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Bobcats.
"Feels good to get the job done," Chirico said after the game.
The Bobcats raised their record to 24-20.
