Larry Ritter led the charge as the Cincinnati Packers defeated the New York Knickerbockers, 6-5, in 12 innings at Knickerbocker Stadium. Ritter, who is a four-time All-Star, went 2-3 with a home run. The win was credited to Steve Meckley in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Jose Espinoza took the loss. Cincinnati has 3 straight wins, New York 3 straight losses.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Stan Timmons came to bat in the top of the 12th. Facing New York pitcher Jose Espinoza, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 5-4.

"Sweet win for us, tough loss for them," said Timmons.
