Packers Rally Late to Nip Eagles
The Cincinnati Packers faced a tough opponent in Washington pitcher Billy Gray, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Monument Field by a final score of 5-4. Gray went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Cincinnati reliever Brian Alfieri picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. David Rodriquez took the loss. Art Ledington, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1970 draft, nailed down the save.

Cincinnati needed the clutch hitting of Mike Clement to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Packers on top, 5-4. For the game, Clement had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We found a way to get it done," Clement said.

At 17-28, Cincinnati is in 5th place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
