Jim Bitting left his imprint on the 5-2 Denver win against the Chicago Traders. Bitting, who is on pace for 208 hits this season, was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Frank Combs earned his 7th save, after closing out the game. Denver, at 30-16, is 3 games up in the National Baseball League Western Division.
Had Bitting not come through in the top of the seventh, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Bitting hit a run-scoring single. The Burros took the lead, 3-2, and never looked back.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Bitting told the Denver Herald.
