Zink Swings Knickerbockers to 8-6 Win
|
The New York Knickerbockers topped the Pittsburgh Industrials by a score of 8-6. Leading the way was third baseman Ray Zink. Zink went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Knickerbockers. Ray Schifsky picked up the win, lifting his record to 1-0 on the season. He struck out 2 and walked 2 in 6 innings, while yielding 2 runs. Jose Espinoza, who finished 2nd in the NBL in innings pitched with 254.0 in 1963, earned the save for New York.
With New York leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Zink hit a changeup from Ron Winder for a grand slam home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Knickerbockers ahead, 5-0.
"It feels good to get this one," Zink told the New York Chronicle.
The Knickerbockers, now 4-1, have stormed out of the gates.
