Empires Absorb 9-7 Home Loss
The Atlanta Generals beat the New York Empires, 9-7, at Queens Field. The win was due in part to first baseman Chris Berman, who was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Dick McCranie got the save, the 8th for him this season. The third-place Empires have lost 4 straight games.

John Raymond came through with a big-time hit for Atlanta. The catcher smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 9-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Raymond.
