Empires Down Lords, 6-3

The New York Empires topped the Baltimore Lords, 6-3, in American Baseball League action at Queens Field. The standout performance belonged to New York pitcher and Beecher, Illinois, native Jon Pierce. The win for the Empires lifted their record to 26-20.
Javier Abarca had a big 3-run home run for the Empires in the bottom of the third inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a sinker from John Gannon, who led the NBL in strikeouts with 179 in 1975, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Empires on top, 4-0.
"Jon's not intimidated by who's stepping into the batter's box," said New York manager Dan Whiting.
