Philadelphia Beats Brooklyn, 4-2
|
The Philadelphia Quakers beat the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 4-2. Philadelphia pitcher and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, native Arnold Jarry led the way. Darrell Klug, who finished 5th in the NBL in wins with 17 in 1971, earned the save for Philadelphia. The Quakers win now puts them at 18-28.
The Quakers got a big at-bat from center fielder Ted Schlener. For the game, Schlener was 1 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Philadelphia a 3-0 lead.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager John Meeker.
