Wolverines Score 4-3 Win Over New York
|
Starting pitcher Larry Black pitched well enough to help the Detroit Wolverines beat the New York Empires, 4-3. Black yielded 3 runs over 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 4-5. Paul Carter was called on to finish, recording his 3rd save.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Pete Morrison to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Wolverines on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It's a good day to be a fan after a win like that," Morrison told the Detroit Daily News.
The victory gives Detroit a record of 24-23.
