Captains Win 2-1 Walk-Off
|
San Diego pitcher Ed Payne had a large part in his team subduing the Chicago Traders, 2-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. The winner was San Diego reliever Brian Meade, now 2-1. The loser was Larry Cox. The win makes San Diego 28-21.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With San Diego trailing 1-0, Jimmy Locricchio hit a fastball from Randy Weisenberg to right for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Captains had a walk-off win.
"Ed was able to locate to both sides, up and down," said San Diego manager Joe Mack.
