The Seattle Emeralds beat the Los Angeles Pobladores, 4-1, at San Vicente Park. Starting pitcher Denny Goldberg was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Seattle reliever Dooley Brewer got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Tony Gregory was tagged with the loss. The save was credited to Randy Fritz, his 1st.
Eddie Rodriguez, the 27-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. Rodriguez contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Seattle up, 1-0.
"Denny is still learning," said Emeralds manager Mark Velez. "The sky's the limit for him."
The win gives Seattle a record of 4-1.
