Wolverines Earn Late 2-1 Win
|
The Wolverines faced a stiff challenge from Boston pitcher Vern Gould, but persevered to claim a win at Atlantic Avenue Grounds. The final score was 2-1. Gould went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. The winning pitcher was two-time All-Star John Fredrick. He tossed 127 pitches over 7.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits. The save was credited to Paul Carter, his 4th.
Brian Cook came through with a big-time hit for Detroit. The shortstop smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Tip of the cap to the Wolverines," said Boston manager Jonah Placeholder. "They played a good game."
The 4th-place Wolverines improved to 26-24.
