The Chicago Traders and Denver Burros played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.

Starting pitcher Wes Stolz gave the Chicago Traders a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Denver Burros, 3-1, at Union Field. Stolz yielded 1 run over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. His record improves to 2-0.

Greg Russell had a big solo home run for the Traders in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a curveball from Bruce Cardenas, who is a three-time All-Star, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Traders on top, 2-0.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Stolz said after the game.

The triumph puts Chicago at 26-23 for the season.
