5-2 Win for Washington Over Brooklyn
|
The Washington Eagles got a stellar effort from pitcher Pedro Nunez, helping Washington score a win over the visiting Brooklyn Bluebirds, 5-2. The winner was Nunez. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Antonio Valerio. At 18-31, the Eagles claim last place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
Jesus Olvera was 1-3. He drove in 2 runs for Washington. The 30-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a 2-run single off Antonio Valerio. It was his 32nd hit of the season.
Said losing manager John Meeker: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
