Bluebirds Lose By a Run at Washington
The Washington Eagles knocked off the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 1-0, in National Baseball League action at Monument Field. Washington pitcher and Phoenix, Arizona, native Bob Viola had an outstanding performance. Viola yielded no runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 4-5. Richie Kingery picked up the save, his 10th.

Jerry Duersch was 1 for 2 with a walk for Washington. The three-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jackie Richardson. It was his 27th RBI of the season.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker. "The effort was great."
