The New York Knickerbockers put the giddy home crowd in an even more jubilant mood after beating the Cincinnati Packers in the season opener at Knickerbocker Stadium. Shortstop Dave Lester won plaudits for New York. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Wayne Houston collected save number 1.

New York took a 5-4 lead on Bob White's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which White hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Cincinnati pitcher Kenny Foster visibly frustrated.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Lester.
