Toronto Beats New York, 8-5
|
The Toronto Hurons topped the New York Empires, 8-5, in American Baseball League action at Queens Field. The standout performance belonged to Toronto pitcher and Shattuck, Oklahoma, native Jeff Ragan. In 7 innings, Ragan surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed 5 runs. Al West finished the game for Toronto and earned his 1st save.
Toronto used a clutch at-bat from Mark Clark to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Hurons ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Jeff is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Toronto manager Jim Burns.
The win gives Toronto a record of 2-3.
