The New York Empires used a great performance from Nate Frampton, who finished 3rd in the ABL in strikeouts with 164 in 1970, to beat the Detroit Wolverines, 1-0, at Queens Field. The second-place Empires have won 5 straight games.

Roger Hickey hit a solo home run off Juan Rodriguez in the bottom of the fifth, which put the Empires ahead, 1-0. In addition to the homer, Hickey had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
