Quakers Edge Knickerbockers, 3-2
|
The Philadelphia Quakers rode a solid performance from 25-year-old starting pitcher Juan Ramirez to a win, beating the New York Knickerbockers, 3-2, at Knickerbocker Stadium. The winner was Philadelphia reliever Bill Kaiser, now 4-1. The loser was Jose Espinoza. The win lifted the Philadelphia record to 32-18.
Jeff Murchison, who finished 5th in the NBL in on-base percentage with .363 in 1968, had a direct impact on the outcome. Murchison contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put Philadelphia up, 3-2.
Murchison told the media after that game that the mood in the clubhouse is "extremely positive" after a win like that.
