Blockbusters Victors, 5-3, at St. Louis
|
The Los Angeles Blockbusters picked up a win at Corps of Discovery Stadium, topping the St. Louis Explorers, 5-3. On the mound for Los Angeles was right-hander Jon Hampton. He played a principal role in the triumph. The winner was Hampton. He threw 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Bob Trout. Billy Duprey locked down his 8th save.
Andy Covarrubio had a big 3-run home run for the Blockbusters in the top of the fifth inning. With Los Angeles leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from Bob Trout, who finished 5th in the NBL in wins with 18 last year, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Blockbusters on top, 5-0.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Covarrubio.
The 6th-place Blockbusters lifted their record to 23-29.
