Empires Raise Rally Flag, Beat Baltimore, 4-2
|
Starting pitcher Larry Stanford had a solid game. He was a big reason the New York Empires throttled the Baltimore Lords, 4-2. In 8 innings, Stanford surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Today's win puts New York at 30-22, while Baltimore falls to 30-22.
Dave Martin, who finished 4th in the ABL in home runs with 27 in 1968, had a direct impact on the outcome. Martin contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put New York up, 2-1.
New York manager Dan Whiting commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
