Empires Drop 2-0 Decision
|
The New York Empires wasted an inspired, 5-inning effort from starter Andy Humphrey, falling, 2-0, to the Montreal Habitants at Queens Field. Jerry Meek snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-1 on the season. Andy Humphrey suffered the loss. Al Johns picked up the save for Montreal, his 10th of the year.
In the top of the fourth inning of a 0-0 tie, Montreal left fielder John Conley reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It broke the deadlock and put Montreal on top, 1-0.
"The guys seem happy with the win. That's good, I guess," said Conley.
Montreal goes to 33-20. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
