Martinez Delivers Walk-Off Win for Explorers
|
The St. Louis Explorers beat the San Diego Captains, 5-4, in part because of first baseman Tom Adams. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 times. The winner was St. Louis reliever Bernie Tate, now 1-0. The loser was Darryl Armstrong. St. Louis goes to 3-3.
The decisive blow was delivered by Fernando Martinez in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off fan favorite Ken Craig to win the game for St. Louis. The home crowd went nuts.
"This game was intense," Adams said, postgame.
