Cleveland Dispatched, 2-1, by Philadelphia
|
The Philadelphia Quakers earned a close win over the Cleveland Bobcats, thanks in part to Juan Ramirez. The Philadelphia right-hander, who is tied for 8th in the NBL with a 1.23 WHIP, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. The winner was Ramirez. He threw 8.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Rick Tomlinson. Philadelphia has now won 3 in a row.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Quakers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when center fielder Ted Schlener hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Rick Tomlinson and made the score 2-0, Quakers. Schlener went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Cleveland manager Daniel Mays. "We just didn't cash in."
