Knickerbockers Net 4-2 Win Over Eagles
|
New York pitcher Ray Schifsky had a large part in his team subduing the Washington Eagles, 4-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Schifsky, now 1-9, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. New York has now won 3 in a row.
Diego Mateo, the 22nd overall pick in the 1964 draft, had a direct impact on the outcome. Mateo contributed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put New York up, 4-2.
"Ray pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said New York manager Timothy Widholm.
