The New York Knickerbockers beat the Washington Eagles, 8-7, at Monument Field. New York center fielder Steve Hudson had an outstanding performance. He went 1-1 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. New York reliever Bruce Elsner snagged the win, upping his record to 2-0. Don McCoy shouldered the loss. Ollie Hundley earned the save, his 12th.

With New York trailing 7-4 in the top of the eighth, Hudson hit a curveball from Don McCoy for a grand slam home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Knickerbockers ahead, 8-7.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Hudson told the New York Chronicle.

The second-place Knickerbockers have won 4 straight games.
