Drillers Get 9-8 Win Versus Chicago
The Chicago Hawks and Houston Drillers provided some drama for the home crowd.

The Houston Drillers turned back the Chicago Hawks, 9-8, at Sam Houston Field. Wade Fields, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2. The winning pitcher was 25-year old right-handed pitcher Billy Gray. He tossed 122 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits. The save went to Jeff Ferguson, number 1 for him.

Jackie Frost hit a bases-clearing triple off Kevin Edwards in the bottom of the fifth, which put the Drillers in front, 8-5. Frost had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.

"We maximized our offense today," said Houston skipper Steven Palps. "That makes everyone's life easier."

The Drillers improved their record to 30-24 with the win over Chicago.
