Eagles Shut Out Knickerbockers, 4-0

The Washington Eagles handed the New York Knickerbockers a loss at Monument Field. The final score was 4-0. Major production was provided by Jeff Lawler for Washington. In addition to his 2 singles and 1 home run, he scored 2 runs and drove in 1. He also added 1 walk. Tommy Morton, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Knickerbockers to no runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 0 and walking 0. The Eagles go to 20-35 with the win.
Larry Wools had a big run-scoring double for the Eagles in the bottom of the second inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Chris Hull, who finished 3rd in the NBL in wins with 17 in 1968, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 14th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 2-0.
"I thought we played a nice game," Lawler told the Washington Chronicle. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
