The New York Empires faced a tough opponent in Atlanta pitcher Bill Davis, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Atlantic Station Field by a final score of 5-4. Davis went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. The win belonged to Tom Duncan in relief. His record improves to 5-1. Jeff Jordan took the loss for Atlanta. Jose Antuna earned the save for New York.

Paul Brower came through with a big-time hit for New York. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"This is a very good team," said Brower. "We have the chance to do something special."

The Empires improved their record to 31-23 with the win over Atlanta.
