Explorers Squelch Bobcats Offense in Shutout Win
|
The St. Louis Explorers defeated the Cleveland Bobcats, 4-0, in part because of center fielder Ken Osterhage. Osterhage was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs for the Explorers. Ramon Juarez got the win, improving to 2-3. He worked 6.2 innings, giving up no runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. The losing streak for Cleveland has now reached 4 games.
Tom Guinn, who finished 5th in the NBL in triples with 11 in 1974, had a direct impact on the outcome. Guinn contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the first inning to put St. Louis up, 1-0.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said St. Louis skipper Ray Fleetwood.
