Packers Earn Clutch Win, 4-3
The Cincinnati Packers racked up a win at Monument Field, bumping off the Washington Eagles, 4-3, in 11 innings. Erv Koenig, who started for Cincinnati, pitched effectively for his team. Ismael Gutierrez picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-1. Richie Kingery, the 7th overall pick in the 1970 draft, was tagged with the loss. Brian Alfieri nailed down his 2nd save.

Glen Bennett drove in one run for Cincinnati. With no one out and the game tied in the top of the 11th inning, Bennett, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1967 draft, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Washington hurler Richie Kingery, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Packers a 4-3 lead.

"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Cincinnati field general Martin Abresch.

The last-place Packers now sit at 21-34.
