Pittsburgh Gets 5-1 Win
|
Ron Winder, who is tied for 3rd in the NBL in quality starts with 10, imposed his will on the Knickerbockers from the get-go. Relying mainly on his curveball, the right-hander spearheaded the 5-1 Pittsburgh triumph. The Knickerbockers, at 30-29, have lost 4 straight games.
The Industrials got a big at-bat from center fielder Carlos Chavez. For the game, Chavez was 3 for 4 with a triple and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 10th double of the season gave Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead.
"Ron pitched his heart out," said Pittsburgh manager Vincent Wicker.
