New York turned a good effort from starter Larry Stanford into a win over the Detroit Wolverines at Wolverine Field. The Empires won the game, 7-2. Stanford, who is tied for 4th in the ABL in strikeouts with 72, went the distance for New York. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. The win for the Empires raised their record to 32-25.

New York left fielder Dave Helms contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a cutter to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 19th hit of the season and put the Empires ahead, 7-0.

"It's nice to get the results when you're feeling good and throwing the ball well," said Stanford after the game.
