Montreal Wins, Chavez goes 4-for-5
|
The Chicago Hawks opened their 1972 season with a disappointing 10-5 loss to the Montreal Habitants at Hyde Park Stadium. Center Fielder Daniel Chavez was a big part of the win for Montreal. He went 4 for 5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Montreal reliever Bob Valentine snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0. Kevin Edwards shouldered the loss.
With Montreal leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth, Chavez hit a fastball from Kevin Edwards for a 2-run double. It was his 1st double of the season and put the Habitants ahead, 4-1.
"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Chavez told a local reporter after the game.
