Hyde Park Stadium was the site of the home opener for the Chicago Hawks. The contest featured a prime matchup between Bob Schar of the visiting Montreal Habitants and Armando Estrada of the Hawks. The final score was 2-0, the Habitants getting the win. Bob Schar turned in the best performance. Schar picked up the win for Montreal, going 6 innings. He gave up no runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Al Johns picked up his 1st save of the season.
Montreal used a clutch at-bat from Don Hill to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Habitants ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"The old adage is true," said Schar. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
