Drillers Take Down Hawks, 6-3
The Chicago Hawks inaugurated the 1976 campaign with a disappointing 6-3 loss to the Houston Drillers in 11 innings at Hyde Park Stadium. Houston right fielder Jackie Frost had a big impact on the outcome. He was 2-4 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times. Reliever Rick McStay picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Alfredo Alvarado, the first overall pick in the 1970 draft, took the loss. The save went to Angel Colon, his 1st this season.

Mike Lockhart was 1-5 with a triple and a walk. He drove in 2 runs for Houston. The seven-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the top of the 11th. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring walk off Alfredo Alvarado. It was his 1st walk of the season.

Frost told the Houston Observer: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
