Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Houston Drillers home opener. Bill Switzer started for the home team against Barry Gilmore for the Dallas Wranglers. The Drillers were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 5-3, Dallas. Lou Ward, though, was impressive. The winning pitcher was Barry Gilmore. His record now stands at 1-0. The right-hander went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits for the Wranglers.

Dallas used a timely hit from Rick Adams to get the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Wranglers ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
