Hawks Beat Toronto, 4-3
|
The Chicago Hawks took Toronto pitcher Ben Immel's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Hyde Park Stadium. The final score had Chicago getting past the Hurons, 4-3. Immel went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 7. Armando Estrada came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 6-7. Chicago raised its record to 29-29 with the win.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Tom Cox came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Toronto pitcher Don LeoGrande, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 4-3.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Cox, "and go after the next one."
