Captains Get Past Milwaukee for 6-5 Win
|
The San Diego Captains beat the Milwaukee Dairymen, 6-5, in part because of first baseman Ramon Montoya. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. San Diego pitcher Brian Meade earned the win, hiking his record to 3-2. Denny Grissinger suffered the loss. The third-place Captains are now 29-29, the Dairymen 21-37.
Had Kent Schiffer not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Schiffer hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Captains.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Schiffer.
