Milwaukee got a decent performance from pitcher Andy Campbell, but it wasn't enough to beat the Washington Eagles. Washington won the Milwaukee Municipal Stadium contest, 5-4. Campbell threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Richie Kingery earned the save, his 3rd, for the Eagles. So far in 1973, Washington is 23-35.

Washington used the timely hitting of Gary Long to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Eagles on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It was our day today," Long told the Washington Gazette. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
