Generals Score 9-2 Win Against Houston
|
The Atlanta Generals defeated the Houston Drillers, 9-2, in part because of left fielder Roberto Palacios. Palacios was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Generals. Joe Johnson notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. His record now sits at 3-0. The 4th-place Generals improved to 27-29.
Ed Mika had a big 2-run home run for the Generals in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Atlanta leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Bill Switzer, who is tied for 10th in the ABL in quality starts with 9, and punished it. The result was his 13th home run of the season, which put the Generals on top, 3-0.
"We'll need a much better effort, the next time out," said losing manager Tom Harrington.
