Hawks Net 6-1 Win Over Wolverines
|
The Chicago Hawks beat the Detroit Wolverines, 6-1, at Wolverine Field. Mark Morris, who finished 4th in the ABL in home runs with 27 in 1972, starred for Chicago. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Denny Chambers, now 2-1, was credited with the win in 5.1 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 5. The loss makes Detroit 31-28.
Ernie Ronnebaum had a big run-scoring triple for the Hawks in the top of the third inning. With Chicago leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Larry Black, who is tied for 7th in the ABL with a 1.15 WHIP, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hawks ahead, 3-0.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Ronnebaum told the Chicago Daily.
