Cincinnati 5-2 Losers to Explorers
|
St. Louis Explorers starter Dave Church hurled his team past the Cincinnati Packers, 5-2. Church, now 5-5, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Bernie Tate was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 9 of 11 save opportunities.
Ken Osterhage had a big run-scoring double for the Explorers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With St. Louis leading 3-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from Erv Koenig, who is tied for 5th in the NBL in strikeouts with 61, and swatted a double to left. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Explorers ahead, 4-2.
"I thought we played a nice game," Osterhage told the St. Louis Daily News. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
St. Louis is now 32-28, Cincinnati 23-36.
