In a low-scoring affair between the New York Empires and the Boston Terriers, pitcher Jon Pierce was the difference between victory and defeat. The New York left-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 Empires win. The win gives the Empires a record of 5-1.

New York used the timely hitting of Tom Glenn to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Empires on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Glenn.
