Drillers Post 4-3 Win Over Atlanta
|
Soggy conditions did not keep Houston and Atlanta from playing their scheduled game.
Despite a great performance by Atlanta second baseman Roberto Palacios, the Houston Drillers defeated the Generals by the score of 4-3 at Atlantic Station Field. Palacios went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Jerry Zaruba, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 5-6. Ed Myatt closed the door for Houston, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Houston used the hitting of Mike Lockhart to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Drillers on top, 3-2. For the game, Lockhart had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Lockhart.
Houston improves to 38-23 with the win. They lead their division by 5 games.
