The Los Angeles Pobladores knocked off the New York Empires, 3-2, in American Baseball League action at San Vicente Park. Los Angeles pitcher and Orange, Virginia, native Dan Turner had an outstanding performance. Turner yielded 2 runs over 8.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 4, and struck out 9. His record improves to 8-5. The loss makes New York 36-24.
The Pobladores got a big at-bat from right fielder Bob Wicke. For the game, Wicke was 1-2 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Los Angeles a 3-2 lead.
"It's a mindset," said Turner. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
