Hawks Capture Extra-Inning Win
|
Fans who congregated at Wolverine Field were treated to extra-inning drama.
No one was more impactful than Lute Eccles in an extra-inning, 5-4 Chicago win over Detroit. Eccles, who is tied for 5th in the ABL with a .404 on-base percentage, was 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Tanner Latour was credited with the save for Chicago, his 1st of the season.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Gene Malone to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Hawks on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Detroit manager Alex Wobbema said, following the tough loss.
At 28-33, the Hawks claim 6th place in the American Baseball League Western Division.
