3-1 Win Takes Captains to 32-30
|
Quakers Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Philadelphia Quakers and San Diego Captains.
The San Diego Captains earned a win at Quakers Stadium, stopping the Philadelphia Quakers, 3-1. Starting pitcher Ed Payne played a big role in his team's success. Ed Prater earned the save for San Diego, his 2nd.
San Diego used a well-timed hit by Kent Schiffer to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Captains ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 2 at-bats, it was important.
"Ed kept his poise and got the job done," said San Diego manager Joe Mack. "He was outstanding."
The setback makes Philadelphia 24-36.
