Hawks Grind Out 2-1 Win
|
The Chicago Hawks got a magnificent effort from pitcher Ken Eldridge, who kept Houston hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Hawks win at Hyde Park Stadium. Eldridge, the winner, moves to 7-6. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 5 walks. Leonardo Ibarra finished to wrap up his 3rd save.
Chicago catcher Don Bozza contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 67th hit of the season and put the Hawks ahead, 2-1.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Chicago manager Mike Flaherty.
The Hawks raised their record to 24-38.
