Knickerbockers Upend Blockbusters, 7-0
|
Los Angeles got a decent performance from pitcher Larry Mitchell, but it wasn't enough to beat the New York Knickerbockers. New York won the Blockbuster Stadium contest, 7-0. Mitchell threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The Knickerbockers bumped their record to 35-31 with this latest triumph.
Wayne Baker went 1 for 2 with 2 walks for New York. The 28-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Larry Mitchell. It was his 31st RBI of the season.
"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said New York skipper Timothy Widholm.
