Traders Lose Versus St. Louis, 3-1
|
The St. Louis Explorers picked up a win at Corps of Discovery Stadium, courtesy of Dick Lott. The right-hander helped his team stop the Chicago Traders, 3-1. The winner was Lott. He threw 8.1 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was Jose Mojica. Bernie Tate notched his 9th save of the season.
The Explorers got a big at-bat from third baseman Fernando Martinez. For the game, Martinez went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave St. Louis a 3-0 lead.
"It was a good effort all around," said Martinez.
St. Louis has a record of 31-32, placing them 4th in the National Baseball League Western Division.
